Compensation disclosure

You pay us nothing. Here is who does, how much, and what it does not buy them.

Comparison platforms are paid by the businesses they refer you to. That is not a problem in itself — it becomes one when the amount, the trigger and the effect on what you are shown are left vague. This page states all three.

The model

One sentence, then the detail.

Licensed insurance organizations pay InsuranceGenie.ca a flat fee when we introduce a consumer who meets the criteria they have agreed to accept. The fee is the same for every partner, it does not vary by product, premium or outcome, and it is not paid by you.We are not paid a commission on your premium. We do not take a share of the policy. We do not receive a bonus if you buy, if you buy more, or if you buy from one partner rather than another.
QuestionAnswer
Who paysThe participating licensed brokerage or agency that receives the introduction. Never the consumer, never the insurer directly.
What triggers paymentAn accepted introduction — a request that meets the partner’s stated acceptance criteria and is passed to them. Not a sale.
How muchA flat per-request fee, set in the partner agreement, identical across all partners in a given product line. The current schedule is available to any partner on request and to any regulator on demand.
Does it vary by premiumNo. A $900 auto policy and a $9,000 commercial policy carry the same fee.
Does it vary by outcomeNo. We are paid the same whether you bind, decline or never answer the phone.
Can a partner pay for better placementNo. There is no paid placement, no sponsored slot, no promoted result and no paid ordering anywhere on this site or in the request flow.
Can a partner pay to be reviewed favourablyNo. Editorial content is produced under a published editorial policy and is not sold.
Do we sell your dataNo. Your information goes to the specific licensed organization named to you before submission, for the purpose of your request. It is not sold to a list, an aggregator or a third-party marketer.
Routing

If everyone pays the same, what decides who you get?

This is the question the compensation disclosure exists to answer, and the one most platforms leave open. Because the fee is flat and identical, it carries no information — routing is decided entirely by whether a partner can actually serve you.

Licence and territory

Is the organization licensed in your province for the product you asked about? Anything else is disqualifying, not a tiebreak.

Market access

Do they hold a contract with insurers who write your class of risk? A brokerage without a market for your trade cannot help you.

Capacity and service record

Measured response time, acceptance rate and complaint record. A partner who does not answer stops receiving introductions.

Routing rules are published, not described. The full decision tree, including the disqualifiers and the service thresholds, is on the partner routing page. We tell you which organization you are being introduced to before your information is shared, and you can decline.
Consistency

The same story to consumers and to partners.

It is common for a comparison platform to describe itself to consumers as a helpful referral service, and to describe the same activity to prospective partners as selling several hundred thousand leads a year. Both descriptions are accurate. Presented to two audiences who never see each other’s page, the pair is misleading.

Our partner-facing page and this page use the same words for the same thing. The volume figures we quote to prospective partners are the volume figures published here. If you are a consumer reading the partner page, nothing on it should surprise you.

The panel is not the market

We publish the count of participating insurers reachable through our panel, dated, with the list. If the count and the list disagree, the list wins and the count gets corrected.

A headline provider count that cannot be reconciled against a published list is the single most common unsupportable claim in this category. Ours is reconcilable by anyone who can count.

Nothing here should be a surprise later.

If a term on this page does not match what happens to you, that is a defect and we want to hear about it.

Does it cost me anything to use InsuranceGenie.ca?
No. There is no fee at any stage, we do not ask for payment details, and there is no obligation to accept anything you are shown.
Does the company that pays you more get shown first?
Every partner pays the same flat fee, so there is no “pays more”. Ordering is by price and coverage fit for your risk.
Are the insurers whose names you show paying you?
No. Insurers do not pay us. The licensed brokerages and agencies that receive introductions pay us. Insurer names appear because those insurers are reachable through the panel, and the list states which product lines each is available for.
Will you sell my information?
No. It goes to the one licensed organization we name to you before you submit, for the purpose of your request, under the consent set out in our privacy policy.
What happens if I do not want to be contacted?
You can decline the introduction before submitting, and you can withdraw afterwards. Transactional messages about a request you started are separate from marketing messages, which require their own express consent under CASL and can be withdrawn independently.
