Bonds and Surety in Canada

Understand the obligation before choosing a bond. Contract and commercial surety serve different purposes; crime and fidelity coverage belongs in a separate conversation about dishonest acts and insured losses.

Find the right starting point

Who are the parties to a surety bond?

The principal undertakes an obligation, the obligee requires it, and the surety issues the bond. Read the specific document to understand who can claim and the required process. Surety commonly involves an indemnity agreement; ask what obligations you accept before signing.

Prepare a complete request

Bring the prescribed form, legal names, required amount and deadline. For construction, include the tender or contract. For regulatory security, include the authority’s instructions. Explain whether you are arranging a new obligation, renewal, replacement or release.

Bond forms and availability vary. This directory explains common categories; it is not a claim that every bond is available through Insurance Genie or that a bond has been approved.
